Oahu tours: seven types of trip

Most visitors choose between Pearl Harbor trips, circle-island days, ocean outings, a day at Kualoa Ranch or the Polynesian Cultural Center, and a luau with a transfer. This page does not rank operators or quote their prices. It helps you decide which type fits you and what the description must say.

Tours matter more on Oahu than in many places, because some of the best sights are not on the rail line. Kualoa Ranch and the Polynesian Cultural Center need a car, a tour or a bus with a change. Prices below are for adults in 2026.

$1booking fee per USS Arizona ticket, which tours do not replace
$30round-trip transport from Waikiki to Kualoa Ranch, per person plus tax
Wed to Sundays Hanauma Bay is open

A simple rule: if you do not rent a car, a tour is the easy way to reach the windward coast and the North Shore. If you rent a car anyway, compare the tour with the entry fees you would pay yourself.

What tours usually include, and what to check

Descriptions differ. These are the points that decide whether a tour is good value.

The Arizona Memorial reservation

The program is free, but tickets are sold on recreation.gov for a $1 booking fee, 56 days ahead and again one day ahead. Go Oahu cards and Groupon vouchers are not valid for it. A Pearl Harbor tour replaces the reservation only if its description says so.

Entry fees

Check whether admission is in the price. The Battleship Missouri costs $44.99, the Bowfin $25.99 and Hanauma Bay $25 for adults. The Passport to Pearl Harbor ($99.99) covers the Missouri, the Bowfin and the aviation museum.

Pickup and return

Ask where the pickup is and when the bus is back. Kualoa Ranch offers transport from Waikiki hotels at $30 per person round trip plus tax.

Time at each stop

A circle-island day can mean short photo stops. If a sight matters to you, such as the turtles at Laniakea or the Hanauma Bay beach, look for the minutes you really get there.

Weather and cancellation

Kualoa Ranch tours run rain or shine, except in strong wind or thunderstorms, and a direct booking is refunded in full if you call at least 48 hours ahead. Pearl Harbor reservations are final. Read the rule before you pay.

Bags and age limits

No bags are allowed at the Arizona Memorial. Kualoa sets minimum ages from 3 to 10 depending on the tour, and children under 4 are not admitted to the submarine Bowfin.

Pick the right day

Closing days decide which tour you can book on which day.

Tour or on your own?

The honest trade-offs.

Pros of a tour

One booking, no driving and no parking search, and a fixed meeting point. This helps most if you do not rent a car or want to see the windward coast and the North Shore in one day.

Cons of a tour

The day is fixed, so bad weather or a closed sight can still hit you. You cannot stay longer at a beach or leave a stop early.

Pros of going alone

You choose the pace. Diamond Head costs $5 per person plus $10 parking per car, and the Dole Plantation grounds are free to enter. See the Diamond Head hike for the booking rules.

Cons of going alone

You book the timed reservations yourself and handle parking. Hanauma Bay charges $3 for parking, in cash, and the bus stop is at the top of the hill. Plan the route before you go.

Oahu tours: frequently asked questions

Does a Pearl Harbor tour include the USS Arizona Memorial?

Only if the description says that the reservation is included. The memorial program is free with a $1 booking fee, and tickets are sold on recreation.gov, 56 days ahead and one day ahead.

Can I visit Pearl Harbor with a Go Oahu card or Groupon voucher?

Not for the Arizona program. These products are not valid for it.

Do I need a tour to reach Kualoa Ranch?

No, but the ranch is not on the rail line. You can drive, take a tour, or use a bus from Ala Moana Center with a change. The ranch also sells transport from Waikiki for $30 per person round trip plus tax.

Which day is best for a Hanauma Bay trip?

Any day from Wednesday to Sunday. The preserve is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, and reservations open two days ahead at 7 am.

Can I cancel a tour if the weather is bad?

It depends on the operator. Kualoa Ranch runs rain or shine except in strong wind or thunderstorms. Check the cancellation rule in the description before you book.
