Oahu catamaran snorkel tour: turtles by day

The snorkel catamaran is the cheapest sail at $49.99. It leaves from Pier A at Kewalo Harbor and runs two hours, with premium snorkel equipment, snacks, water, soda and juice, and two restrooms on board. The operator offers a turtle sighting guarantee with a full refund if none appear. Parking beside the boat costs $2 an hour.

For snorkeling you need to be able to swim and wear at least a flotation aid, and you enter the water with a partner.

Waikiki sunset catamaran sail: three ways to do it

The sunset sails differ mainly in food, drink and price. The 40-foot catamaran from Pier A, $54.99, is the budget choice: two hours with an appetizer spread of charcuterie, fruit and vegetables, water, soda and juice.

The Moana Catamaran costs $89.99 for two hours from slip D108 on the south side of Kewalo Harbor. The first drink from the premium bar is included, and further drinks are included only with the VIP package. Food can be added if you order at least three hours ahead, and all ages are welcome.

At $119.95, the Signature Sunset sail runs 90 minutes with light snacks, local beer, signature cocktails and wine included. Check-in is at the Waikiki Beach Activities Kiosk, and vegetarian or gluten-free meals need 24 hours notice. Groups watching their budget do better with the $54.99 sail.

Friday night fireworks cruise

The fireworks cruise leaves from Holomoana Street, across from the Prince Waikiki hotel, and runs 105 minutes. At $84.72 it includes all fees and taxes. Arrive 45 minutes early. Bring a light jacket, a camera and money or a card for drinks, since you cannot bring your own. If weather cancels the trip, the operator rebooks you or refunds the full price.

Parasailing as a boat alternative

The $44 parasailing ride is the lowest price here. It is a one-hour shared boat ride that includes the parasail flight, with check-in at Slip F-1 across from Ward Villages. Choose it when you want to be lifted above the water rather than sail along it.

Best time of year and weather

Hawaii's summer runs from May to October and winter from November to April. At times the wind swings to the south or west and brings stormy weather, which can cancel a sailing day. The fireworks cruise runs on Fridays only.
